I've always had a passion for travel. From the age of 18, I travelled to Europe and Australia for my own pleasure. But the desire to do more and expose myself to the unknown was stronger than anything. Since then, I've been on several humanitarian missions in Haiti and Africa. As a North American, I find it essential to expose myself to realities where poverty is tangible, where daily life is a struggle for basic needs. Therein lies an inexplicable joy, something hard to comprehend for us who live in a bubble of comfort. We have everything we need to be happy: air conditioning, heat, a safe roof over our heads and, therefore, peace of mind. If only to be able to enjoy silence whenever we want. But for these populations, these luxuries are non-existent. They have to fight day after day to survive. While we never wonder if our fridge will be full, for them, every day they wonder if they'll have a right to a next meal. Their ability to overcome this is a reason to celebrate each new day. It's a valuable lesson for us, to stop making trivial comparisons and to stop complaining about unimportant things in our materialistic world.
My trips to Haiti and Benin (Africa) have been decisive. These experiences forged authentic relationships and enabled me to use my skills as a videographer to document their reality. Surviving the earthquake in Haiti in 2010 was a turning point for me. It opened my eyes to the meaning of life, showing me that there's so much more to do on this earth than settle for my little daily routine.
So, with Alpha Learning, we decided to do our share and give back. Using our skills in video creation, we support humanitarian causes that often lack the resources to showcase their work. It's a way of giving our time and money to these causes. This involvement goes far beyond simple material aid; it brings incredible moral satisfaction to the whole team. We feel a real pride in working for these initiatives, raising awareness and contributing, in our own small way, to a better world.
